Marden Cobb Waterway
52 miles on the Cassadaga and Conewango Creeks
Camping/leantos
August 23, 2007
My friend Sue and I managed to canoe a portion of the Cassadaga Creek this gray and hazy Thursday. We put in at Levant and travelled upstream. It was a tiny bit challenging to get past the spot where the Chadakoin comes into the Cassadaga – there was a bit of “fast” (ha ha) current there. Once we got over onto the Cassadaga, though, it was pretty much flat water and an easy paddle. From Levant going upstream, you will pass under bridges for Route 394 and the Southern Tier Expressway (Route 86). There is a section that is wide open field/shrub habitat just north of Route 86 that is probably a bear on a hot sunny day… but soon, it turns to tree lined creek… very pretty… very nice.
The creek twists and turns quite a bit on this stretch. We didn’t make it all the way to Ross Mills… had to turn back, due to a thunderstorm. We probably only paddled a couple of miles or less before we had to turn back. You can read more about our misadventure here:
